李外曲最擅名者，袁籜庵、洪昉思昇、孔東塘也。 袁風流才子，落拓不羈。守荊州，忤道員，罷歸。嘗策騎夜行過某宅門外，聞內演 《西樓》，狂喜墮地。填詞工小令，見《紅橋唱和集》。詩少傳誦者。洪遭家難， 流寓坎壈。年五十餘，自苕霅返杭，落水死。遺詩大半經漁洋山人點定，今亦不甚 流播。予於坊選中見數首，極愛其〔流水去不息，白雲時在山〕句。東塘以國子先 生宣力淮揚，頗著賢聲。詩甚富，《湖海集》七卷，則鄧孝威漢儀、宗定九、黃仙 裳、吳園次諸公評閱也。才思濬發，揮灑自如，絕無鍥舟刻楮之跡。太沖口處，不 免元輕白俗；極脫極俊處，自是作手。予所重尤在骨格老蒼，古體如《維揚聞顏修 來考功訃》、《單刀行》、《寄田綸霞》、《書錢節婦傳略》、《丁廉使》、《亂 後寄家信》、《贈蔡霖蒼》七篇。近體如《贈陳健夫》云： 君亦悲歌士，遙從燕市來。逢山題野竹，隨路折江梅。 白馬嘶難住，黃河凍不開。曾無三卮酒，同上釣魚臺。 《二十四橋》云： 不見舊時橋，仰問當年月。何處一聲簫，半夜猶淒絕。 《揚州》云： 阮亭合是揚州守，杜牧風流數後生。廿四橋邊添酒社，十三樓下說詩名。 曾經畫舫無閒柳，再到紗窗總舊鶯。亦有蕪城詞賦手，煙花好句讓多情。 《北固山看大江》云： 孤城鐵甕四山圍，絕頂高秋坐落暉。眼見長江趨大海，青天卻似向西飛。
