“Push It” was originally the flipside to “Tramp.” “We recorded it in [rapper] Fresh Gordon’s bathroom,” Salt told Essence. “We needed something quick for the B-side because we wanted to put out the single the next day.” Californian DJ Cameron Paul remixed it and sent his version to Next Plateau Records. That was released as a single and retrospectively added to Salt-N-Pepa’s debut, Hot, Cool & Vicious (1987). It reappeared on A Salt with a Deadly Pepa (1988). Always passionate about feminist and social issues, they dedicated it to single mothers, lower taxes, and the Obamas. “We are,” declared Salt, “pushing it for change in America with Barack and Michelle Obama.”
